From June 20-22, in Hanoi, Intellectual Property Department (Ministry of Planning; CN) in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organized a workshop on “Building an Intellectual Property Strategy (IP) of Vietnam”.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Dinh Huu Phi, Director of the NOIP said: In recent times Vietnam has built a relatively complete institutional system in issues related to IP, including Law, Decree, Circular. However, there is still a lack of documents issued by the Prime Minister that is the development of the National IP Strategy.

In the process of developing a market economy and international integration, IP plays an increasingly important role. For enterprises in the period of market economy, registration of intellectual property protection rights plays an important role. Therefore, the Government has assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop a National IP strategy, which sets out goals, ways and solutions to contribute to socio-economic development in general and to serve IP field in particular.

To build the Strategy, the Ministry of Science and Technology wishes to receive the support of WIPO organization. Last March, WIPO and the Ministry of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement on WIPO’s technical support for Vietnam to develop this Strategy. Today’s seminar was organized as the start of a series of activities to implement WIPO’s cooperation agreement for Vietnam. At this seminar, international experts and Vietnamese experts will exchange the tasks to be developed to build a successful strategy, just as in the method of integrating IP strategy with the strategy of delivery. socio-economic development and development strategy for science and technology.

In order to achieve outstanding growth in the IP field, it is not only the National IP strategy, however Building this Strategy will contribute to laying the foundation for the IP field in the coming time. With extensive experience in the field of IP, advising developing countries on IP, we hope that Australian experts will provide useful advice to Vietnamese experts in drafting the draft. Vietnam’s national IP strategy is suitable for Vietnam’s conditions.

Mr. Dinh Huu Phi also expressed his hope that this conference will help international and Vietnamese experts find the point. collectively in the process of making unified views in developing the Strategy in the coming time. At the same time, Mr. Dinh Huu Phi also thanked the World IP organization for supporting Vietnam to organize this seminar and during the Strategy development process.

Besides, Mr. Ye Min Than added, we will share more experiences of the countries that have succeeded in developing the National Strategy for you to develop the Strategy in accordance with the context of Vietnam. In the process of implementation, the two sides will give specific tasks to be implemented in the coming time, build an appropriate roadmap for the end of the year to submit to the Government the draft National Strategy on IP.
